Sanand to become first medical device cluster in India

Sanand in Gujarat where the Tata Nano plant is coming up will also get a medical device cluster park, the first of a kind in the country. It will spread over 100 acres and will have 25-30 company manufacturing facilities here. It will also have a research and development centre with an investment of Rs. 800 million and it will work with collaboration the national centre for medical devices (NIPER)

Dr.Reddy Laboratories to focus on domestic sales

Dr.Reddy Laboratories which has been ranked 13th in terms of domestic sales is bringing its focus to improve its ranking. The company had been amongst the top ten few years back and lost it due to lack of focus. It plans to launch new therapeutic products in popular segments like cardiovascular, dermatology and diabetes and plans to strengthen its northern and eastern markets. The current Indian domestic market is estimated at Rs. 550,000 million and Dr.Reddys have a 2.7 % market share.

Govt. mulls public-private-partnership to aid new drug findings

In this, gloomy economic climate, govt is promoting public-private partnership in smaller pharma firms to boost R&D activities. Govt. may set up a concept fund to support with tie-up from IDBI. This move is a part of govt.’s plan to invest $1 billion to 2 billion every year till 2020 to promote pharma industry. This will help in pooling of common resources and bring talent and churn out more compounds from the Indian R&D pipeline.

Department of Pharma prepares White Paper to promote Indian Pharma

With a slogan ‘Vision 2020’, Department of Pharma plans to invest around Rs.50,000 to Rs.60,000 million every year till 2020 with help from private sectors or with  public-private partnership. It aims to strengthen CRAMS (contract and research manufacturing) and drug discovery. Its objective is to make India in the top five  pharma discovery hub – and take 50% share in drug discoveries.
