Dr.Reddy Laboratories to focus on domestic sales

Dr.Reddy Laboratories which has been ranked 13th in terms of domestic sales is bringing its focus to improve its ranking. The company had been amongst the top ten few years back and lost it due to lack of focus. It plans to launch new therapeutic products in popular segments like cardiovascular, dermatology and diabetes and plans to strengthen its northern and eastern markets. The current Indian domestic market is estimated at Rs. 550,000 million and Dr.Reddys have a 2.7 % market share.
 

Troikaa Pharma to commission Sanand plant by 2011

Troikaa Pharma which had plans to set up a manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat had plans now to commission the plant by next year. The company had currently using its resources to expand its personnel base to market its new product Dynapar AQ. In Sanand, the facility will have a capacity to manufacture 6 million injectables per month and other tablets, capsules and topical preparations. It also has plans to shift its Thol facility near Ahmedabad to be shifted to Sanand once it becomes operational.
 

Eisai Pharma to commence commercial operations at Visakhapatnam unit in Sept 2010

Eisai Pharmatechnology and Manufacturing India Private Ltd, a Japanese group company is planning to commence commercial operations of its Visakhapatnam unit by Sept 2010. The company had invested around Rs. 2500 million which had come up in Pharma Special City SEZ. The facility comprises of pilot plant, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) unit, formulations manufacturing unit and a research lab. The unit will have a capacity of 2 billion tablet per year and 30 tonne of formulations. Its capacity may be doubled later.
 

Kerala Govt restricts proliferation of medical shops

Kerala, the biggest pharma retail market in the country worth around Rs.15000 million has reached saturation level and government feels that any new addition may lead to unhealthy unethical practices. The Chemists and Druggist Association has welcomed the move. It has suggested limits of 100 meters range in non-urban limits and 50 meter range for city limits. However, these limits won’t apply to hospital pharmacies and government run pharmacies/fair price shops like Neeti and Maveli. Currently, ban is on for new medical shops but courts may strike down as it has happened earlier.
