Strides Arcolab gets USFDA approval for its Bangalore plant


Strides Arcolab has received approval from USFDA for injectables manufacturing at its Bangalore plant. This will help the company to enter into the lucrative steriles export market and may expect a export turnover of US$ 150 million. The company is manufacturing cephalosporin, penicillin and other injectables and has already received 14 steriles  approvals from USFDA and other applications are pending, which may be cleared later in a phased manner.

Fourrts India plans another unit near Chennai


Fourrts India Laboratories Pvt Ltd, a generic drug manufacturer is setting up a unit in Vengadamangalam. 40 kms near Chennai with an investment of Rs. 400 million. It will manufacture new generation anti-diabetic drugs and cardiovascular drugs for developed countries. The new plant is built according to USFDA standards and European standards and likely to begin commercial production by April 2010. The company is also looking at contract manufacturing options
 


Glaxo partners with Bangalore based Kermwell for R&D


GSK Consumer Healthcare, has partnered with Kermwell, Bangalore based contract manufacturer of pharma products for R&D work. Currently, Kermwell, does bottling, packaging for Glaxo for over a decade. The new R&D unit for Glaxo will come up at its existing unit in Bangalore and Kermwell has hired over 20 people to execute this contract. The R&D services include, clinical trials, stability studies, analytical services, formulation etc.,

Cram business likely to get a boost in this slow-down period

With spiralling research costs, expiry of patent period, couple by advancement of Indian pharma companies will result in growth of contract research business. Many analyst predicts a growth of $ 3 biliion of cram business by 2015. Further, many Indian companies Divis Laboratories, Piramal Healthcare, Biocon have expanded recently their operations to accommodate this growth. Indian pharma industry, has similar strengths of IT (high skilled man-power at low costs, availability) is set to make this grow.
